Fair and Effective Transmissions in IEEE 802.11e WLAN

چکیده
The goal of the Enhanced DCF (EDCF) is to provide a distributed access approach that can support service differentiation in IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN. In this paper we propose a control mechanism to support fair and effective transmissions in IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN. Since the proposed mechanism transmits packets using the link states and transmitted contents, higher transmission efficiency can be obtained by reducing unnecessary bandwidth usage. Fairness among mobile hosts also will be considered in this paper. The proposed algorithm uses short-term and long-term transmission times of each traffic classes to control their CWmin for fairness.

IEEE 802.11e - fair resource sharing between overlapping basic service sets
The upcoming IEEE 802.11e is an extension of the 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) standard. We use this new standard with its priority provisioning mechanism to address fairness issues that occur when geographically co-located WLANs share the radio channel in the so-called Overlapping Basic Service Set environment. By allowing a new mechanism that is part of the 802.11e, called EDCF-TX...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Real-Time Application for EDCA Function in IEEE 802.11e WLAN
The IEEE 802.11 standard is a widely used base for wireless local area network (WLAN) infrastructure, because of its easy deployment. But it cannot provide QoS support for an increasing number of multimedia applications. With deployment of WLAN, the ability of the IEEE802.11 standard to support multimedia applications with high quality of service (QoS) requirements has increased. This paper eva...
متن کاملA performance analysis of block ACK scheme for IEEE 802.11e networks
The demand for the IEEE 802.11 wireless local-area networks (WLANs) has been drastically increasing along with many emerging applications and services over WLAN. However, the IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) is known to be limited in terms of its throughput performance due to the high MAC overhead, such as interframe spaces (IFS) or per-frame based acknowledgement (ACK) frame transmissio...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Priority Schemes for IEEE 802.11e Wireless Local Area Networks Using Multiple Flows Distributed Weighted Fair Queuing Algorithm
In this paper, a novel and simple search algorithm called distributed weighted fair queuing (DWFQ) algorithm is proposed for the quality-of-service (QoS) in IEEE 802.11e wireless local area networks (WLANs). We first propose that the IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed coordination function (EDCF) is an efficient algorithm to support the QoS in WLANs, although it can provide more bandwidth to pac...
متن کاملQoS protection for IEEE 802.11E in WLAN with shared EDCA and DCF access
The next deployments of IEEE 802.11 WLAN will involve the coexistence of the legacy best effort stations and the new recently standardised QoS-aware stations in QoS Basic Service Set (QBSS). However, if no control is applied to the legacy stations, this coexistence may deteriorate QoS support provided by the new IEEE 802.11e standard. In this paper the influence of IEEE 802.11b DCF stations on ...
